North Berwick is a seaside town in East Lothian, Scotland. It is situated on the south shore of the Firth of Forth, around 20 miles east-northeast of Edinburgh.
Built around 1350 and used until 1650, Tantallon Castle now lays in a ruined state where the public can now explore inside of its stone walls where they can get a great view of the Bass Rock. Used during the wars of Scottish independace the castle was once home to the Earl of Angus.
The Bass Rock, is an island in the outer part of the Firth of Forth in the east of Scotland. Approximately 2 km offshore, it is a steep-sided volcanic plug, 107 m at its highest point, and is home to a large colony of gannets. The rock is uninhabited, but historically has been settled by an 8th-century Christian hermit, and later was the site of an important castle, which after the Commonwealth period was used as a prison. The island belongs to Hew Hamilton-Dalrymple, whose family acquired it in 1706.
